Why can't we be Friends? (:

I am Who.
Television shows, movies, songs and the occasional artworks you go to see often tell you one thing:
Be who you are.
This identity issue has been milked to death by artists, musicians, film makers, politicians and even your own teachers. Confucius tells us to let the father be the father, let the son be the son. Even local semi-celebrity Ris Low wears clothes that shouts ME!
We are taught that self-expression means to show the world who we are; to look into the mirror and take a good look at who we really are. Everyone says that you are the happiest when you are yourself. People pound into our feeble minds that if you try to be something you are not, there is nothing but disappointment and loss in store for you.
But what if who we are just does not cut it for us? What if we wake up in the morning and hate the person we see in the mirror? Do we wallow in self-pity? Or worse, tell ourselves that it’s really okay to be that pathetic loser we really are? Love the douche-bag of a self you are.
I refuse. I refuse to let the universe tell me that i have to be content with what i have. I will contend with what i have and make it bigger, better, bolder.
I will be who i want to be.
Self-esteem issues, you say. Nay. Notice that the celebrities that bask in the longevity spotlight are the ones that constantly reinvent themselves. From the sweet young thing to the material girl to the mother who writes children’s books and then back to the clubber in a leotard. Madonna is who she wants to be. Not who she is. Perhaps celebrities arent the best examples for people with self-confidence but hey they are the ones who open up their lives, their bodies to the world so cut them some slack please.
The idea thus is not to be too easily satisfied with what you’ve done so far. Go do things you’ve never thought you’d ever do (things you’ve secretly wanted to do all your life). Be the kind of person you want to be. Forget the boring old you. Look for that exciting new you. Look for what you’ve always been looking for.

Revisit.
Have you ever known who you are and what you want to be all your life, only to suddenly feel that tiny speck of doubt that perhaps everything you’ve known your whole life isnt what it’s supposed to be?
Would you stick to the plan?
Or would you do it differently.
